Barring any last minute changes, the Hajj Institute of Nigeria (HIN), in collaboration with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), will host the 2nd National Hajj Stakeholders Summit on April 30th, 2025 at the NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja. This year’s summit is themed Sustainable Hajj Financing: Developing a Resilient Model for Nigerian Pilgrims and Operators.
This was disclosed by the Rector of the Hajj Institute, Professor Nasiruddeen Muhammad Maiturare while inaugurating the Summit’s Steering Committee earlier yesterday 14th April 2024 in the HIN conference room. The committee is chaired by Deputy Rector of the Institute, Professor Wasiu Olugbenga Gabadeen. Members are drawn from staff of the Institute, NAHCON’s Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS)unit; the States’ and Zones’ Unit, Protocol and the Media arm of NAHCON.
This year’s Summit will focus on developing appropriate financial sustainability models as a precursor to tackle financial challenges faced by the Hajj Industry in Nigeria. Other primary objectives of the summit include:
– Developing a sustainable and self-financing model for Hajj operations in Nigeria.
-Creating mechanisms for financial oversight, risk management, and the protection of Hajj funds.
-Exploring and promoting the use of digital platforms and technology to improve payments, savings tracking, and overall efficiency in Hajj financial operations.
The summit will feature four sessions, each comprising seven panel members, that will lead in-depth discussions and offer expert insights on pressing issues surrounding Hajj financing and administration.
The Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Mansur Muhtar, former Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Jeddah and current Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Industry (BOI).
Special Guests expected at the summit are H.E. The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima; HRH, the Sultan of Sokoto; Honourable Ministers and Members of the National Assembly.
In addition to NAHCON Board members and Management, leaderships of State Pilgrims Welfare Boards/Agencies/Commissions, Private Sector Hajj Operators and relevant MDAs, the Summit is expected to attract Islamic Financial Institutions, and Fintech Companies as participants in the two day brainstorming sessions.
This summit is hoped to be a launching pad towards building a more resilient, transparent, and sustainable model for Hajj financing in Nigeria.
